Alta Katherine Snyder was a devoted woman of faith, family and service whose life was defined by hard work, kindness, and an unwavering love for others.
A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for more than 30 years, Alta cherished her faith and found great comfort and strength in reading her Bible. Her church was an important part of her life, as was the opportunity to serve and care for those around her.
Alta was a hardworking woman throughout her life. She worked as a pattern setter at Dorman Mills and later as a machine operator at Parsons Footwear. She also dedicated 22 years of her life to caring for others as a beloved Certified Nursing Assistant at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, where her compassion and willingness to help, made a difference in the lives of many.
Outside of her work, Alta found joy in gardening, reading and especially cooking. She was a wonderful cook who loved nothing more than preparing a meal and feeding others. Her kitchen and her table were places of warmth and welcome, where family and friends could always feel at home.
Above all else, Alta loved her family. Her family was her whole world, and she had a special place in her heart for her children and, especially, her grandchildren. She was the kind of person who always put others before herself, making sure everyone else's needs were met before considering her own.
Alta truly lived a life of service. She lovingly assisted in the care of her parents, her sister, her brothers, and her neighbors. Whether caring for a loved one, helping a neighbor, preparing a meal, or simply offering a helping hand, she gave of herself without hesitation. Her life was a beautiful example of what it means to love others through both words and actions.
Alta will be remembered as an extremely hardworking, caring, and selfless woman whose faith guided her, whose family gave her purpose, and whose generous heart touched countless lives. The love she shared, the meals she prepared, the people she cared for, and the countless ways she put others first will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Her family was her greatest blessing, and she was truly a blessing to them.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, West Virginia, on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
