The next time you hear from me, school will be back in session. The summer has flown by. School in Barbour County starts Aug. 14. I hope everyone has a good and safe year.

Barbour County Youth Football and Cheer still has space open for cheerleaders in the 10-12 age group. Thanks to a generous anonymous donation, registration is now completely free for anyone in that age group who signs up between now and weigh-ins.

At least three more cheerleaders are needed to form a team — let’s help make it happen!

Philippi United Methodist Church is excited to welcome back and proud to announce the return of Taj Rohr in concert Aug. 10 at 6 pm.

Tickets can be purchased from Philippi UM Church members before the concert date or at the door. There will be a price for tickets for adults, and a discounted price for tickets for a family of 3 or more. For not information, call 304-457-4551 or 304-457-2715.

Belington Public Library is splashing back into school with a water party on Aug. 11 from noon until 4 p.m. Join them for a fun afternoon of water activities. Spaces are limited, so reserve your child’s spot by calling 304-823-1026.

Philippi and Belington Middle schools will both be having their open house on Aug. 12 from 4-6 pm.

There will be a multi family yard sale on Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Union Community Building. They will have clothes, toys, household items, books and much more. Come on out and get some treasures!

There will be a covered dish dinner and Gospel sing on August 23 at the Teter Lake Community pavilion. Dinner begins at noon, with the music starting at 2 p.m.

The Barbour County Fair will kick off on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. with the Queens Pageant. Come on out and watch as three young ladies compete for the coveted title of Miss Barbour County.

The Fair will run throughout the week with entertainment, food, music, crafts, races, demolition derby and much more.
