Hello from Barbour County!
School starts for Barbour County students on Aug. 21. Things will look a little different this year, as the middle schools in the county will be merging together for school at Philip Barbour.
Many things will be different, from different bus routes, new classrooms, different teachers and more. Let’s try to be understanding.

This year, Barbour County schools will be providing free breakfast and lunch for all students. A healthy meal helps to make a healthy mind.
Belington Idol is coming to town! The karaoke contest will take place on the Square in Belington every Friday, beginning Aug. 28 through Sept. 25. There will be an entry fee with registration beginning each night at 6:30 p.m. This is for ages 16 and older. First-, second-, and third-place winners will receive cash prizes. Step up to the mic and be the next Idol!
Belington Church of the Nazarene will be hosting their free lunch on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Delivery is available within the city limits by calling 304-591-6762. The church is located on Hoff Street in Belington. There is no cost for this lunch.
The Barbour County Fair presents A Walk to Remember. The dates for this year’s County Fair will be Aug. 29 through Sept. 5. Come out and enjoy the fun while “Honoring Our Roots!”
Barbour County FFA will be hosting Cow Patty Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 5 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. There will be a cost per ticket. Thank you for supporting the future of agriculture.
As part of Old Fashioned Days in Belington, the Durban & Greenbrier Valley Railroad will be having train rides on Sept. 18 and 19. Train will depart from the Golden Rule at 6 p.m. Enjoy a one-hour Sunset trip along the Tygart Valley River. This sounds very relaxing and looks to be a great time.
The Junior Volunteer Fire Department Fall Bash will take place on Sept. 19. Doors open at 9 a.m. There will be free food and drinks, additional giveaways, and great prizes throughout the day. You must be 18 years or older to attend. To purchase tickets, go to juniorvfd.com or see your favorite Junior fireman.
There will be a Holiday Bingo on Oct. 18 at the Belington Fire Department. Doors open at 1 p.m., with games starting at 2 p.m. Packets will be $25 each. For more information, call 304-695-0223.
Looking ahead, Mikey Hart Memorial Scholarship Purse Bingo will take place on Nov. 1 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Junior Volunteer Fire Department.

A recipe for you to try:
Miracle Cookies
1 cup of peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
Mix well. Roll in balls. Coat in sugar. Bake at 350 for about 11 minutes.
These are called Miracle Cookies because they do not have any flour. Enjoy!
