Barbour County Winter Fair to take place on March 6-7

Hello from Barbour County!

Remember that February is Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Take care of your heart. It’s a pretty important part of your life!

It may be winter, but the Philippi City Pool is thinking summer. Applications are being taken for lifeguards for the 2020 summer season. Applications can be picked up and returned to the City Hall.

The Asbury United Methodist Church will be hosting a free Soup and Sandwich Supper in their fellowship hall on Feb. 21 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. All are welcome for an evening of fun, fellowship, and hearty soups on a cold winter evening.

The Barbour County cancer support group will have their monthly meeting on Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Medallion Restaurant in Philippi. This is open to all cancer survivors, caregivers and family members. For more information, call Deanna at (304) 457-2684.

Barbour County Pre-school and Kindergarten Registration will take place at Philip Barbour High School Auxiliary Gym on Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please bring a state certified birth certificate, up to date immunization record, physical and dental screening record, as well as income verification. In case of a snow date, the alternate date will be Feb. 28, at the same time and place. If you have any questions, call Connie Mundy at (304) 457-3030.

The Barbour Community Health Association and Wellness Center is sponsoring a six-week health program called P.A.N.I.C., which stands for Physical Activity and Nutrition In the Community. These classes will be held at the Belington Middle School, and is free to the public, but donations of non perishable items will be accepted. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The classes will be held on Monday evenings, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and April 6. Sign in is from 6 p.m. – 6:15 p.m., and classes will run from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded. The Barbour County Winter Fair will take place March 6-7 at the Belington Volunteer Fire Department. Craft tables are available for $15 per space, and can be reserved by calling (304) 669-6833.

The Belington Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their first annual Spring Gun Bash on March 21 at the fire house. There will be 17 guns on the tickets to be given away, as well as additional floor guns. Refreshments and tips will be available. Tickets are $25 each, or three tickets for $50. Only 1.000 tickets will be sold. To get tickets, see your favorite Belington fireman.
