Spring fun in Barbour

’Round and about Barbour County

Hello and happy spring from Barbour County!

Today, Saturday, March 22, the Junior Volunteer Fire Dept. is hosting their Spring Bash. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and drawings will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be a pulled pork BBQ lunch, free drinks and donuts. Come on out and support a great group of men and women who are always there when we need them.

On March 31, from 6-8 p.m., Sugar Creek Church will be presenting a free evening of roller skating at Skatezone in Belington. Bring the family and a friend and come on out and enjoy the evening.

There will be a Spring Craft Show on April 5 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Battler’s Knob in Philippi. There will be more than 50 vendors in attendance and there is no cost for admission.

Also on April 5, there will be a buckwheat and pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8-11 a.m. at Feed My Sheep Christian School in Philippi. Eat in or takeout is available.

Battler’s Knob and Peoples Bank presents a very unique Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 6, beginning at 2 p.m. What’s unique about this, you may ask? This hunt is for adults only. Tickets are available for a fee and are limited, as only 50 tickets will be sold. To purchase your tickets, contact Cherri at 304-613-7180. This event is a fundraiser and $500 will be donated to Barbour County Softball.

Battler’s Knob is partnering with the Easter Bunny himself to have an Easter Party on April 12, starting at 10 a.m. For just $12 per child, your little one can have breakfast with Mr.E. Bunny, do an Easter craft and receive an Easter basket. Plan to come on out for a “hopping” good time.

Philip Barbour Boys basketball team is up to all good things once again this year. For $25, they will “egg” your yard with 48 filled Easter eggs and 1 special egg. For more information, or to get your yard on the list, contact Robin at 304-614-5481 or Marcus at 304-625-1687. They will need to know by April 17 if you would like to participate.

The Mt. Liberty Community will be holding their annual Ramp Dinner on April 26 from 11 – 4 p.m. More information will follow.

As you start thinking about spring cleaning, keep in mind that there will be a Flea Market at Battler’s Knob on May 17 from 9 a.m – 3 p.m. One man’s trash is another’s treasure, so make plans to set up a table and/or go on a “treasure hunt” yourself.

Save the date. The Mikey Hart Scholarship fund will be hosting a chicken burn and cornhole tournament on May 31. There will be more information as time gets closer.

Looking ahead, Barbour County Fair Association presents Professional bull riding, barrel racing and more in two nights of jam packed entertainment, June 13 and 14. Advance tickets are $15, and tickets will also be available at the gate for $20 each. For more information, contact the fair office at 304-823-1328.

If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in the Inter Mountain, give me a call at 304-614-7782. I love hearing from you.

Until next time: Spring shows us just how beautiful change can be.
