Spring in the air in Barbour

Hello from Barbour County! Spring is in the air, and hopefully that means that the snow is behind us. It’s hard to believe that the next time I write to you, it will be May!

Easter weekend is here, and that means egg hunts and sunrise services.

To start the weekend off, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt at Belington Elementary School beginning at 10 a.m. This is sponsored by the Junior Lions Club.

After that, there will be an Egg Hunt beginning at noon at Camp Popeye, off Route 250, just outside of Belington on Saturday, April 19. Stop by for some fun, and while you are there, enjoy some hotdogs, watch a puppet show and even take a picture with the Easter Bunny!

Then, head on to Philippi, because there will be another Egg Hunt at the Little League Park beginning at 2 p.m. This hunt will have 5 age groups from 0 – 12 years old and is sponsored by the Philippi Lions Club.

Also at 2 p.m., there will be another hunt sponsored by the Junior Lions Club. This will be held at the Junior Elementary School.

In all, this promises to be a fun-filled day.

On Easter Sunday, you are invited to come out to the Tacy Crossroads Church at 6:20 a.m. for their sunride service. This will take place in the cemetary by the cross. Free breakfast will follow at the Tacy Community Center.

Another sunrise service and breakfast will take place at Camp Popeye beginning at 7 a.m. Camp Popeye is a ministry of Faith Way Baptist Church.

The Barbour County Writer’s Club will be having a celebration on April 24 at 17 North in Philippi at 7 p.m. The club is a group of local authors that was started 50 years ago by Dr. Barbara Smith. Dr. Smith will be honored with music, food, readings by the authors and lots of laughter. This is free to the public.

There will be a comedy show at Battler’s Knob on April 25 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Invite your friends for an unforgettable show with Ryan & Friends.

The city of Belington will be having a city wide clean up on April 26 from 8 a.m -1 p.m. (or until dumpsters are full). Dumpsters will be available in the VFW parking lot. Come out and help make Belington beautiful.

Stop by the Stewart’s Pond on Rt 92, just outside of Belington, (right before the elementary school) for Belington police’s annual fishing derby. There will be lots of door prizes, a fish cleaning station and a vendor selling food. The police department will also be having a road stop in town that day. Stop by and support your local law enforcement.

Also on April 26, the Mt. Liberty Community will be having their Ramp Dinner from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (or until sold out). There will be a charge for adults and a lesser charge for children 12 and under. The menu consists of: ham, fried potatoes (with and without ramps), brown or white beans, ramps (raw or cooked), cornbread or roll, homemade applesauce, dessert and a drink. Applebutter will be available for sale as well.
