Autumn is definitely in the air in Barbour County
Hello from Barbour County! Fall is in the air. My favorite time of the year.
Fire season is also in. No burning between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Also, be sure to use common sense and if it is windy or extra dry, then don’t burn at all.
Spooky season is also upon us. Philip Barbour will be having a Zombie 5K today, Oct. 25, beginning at 10 a.m.
Also today, there will be a Hocus Pocus, sixth annual Trunk or Treat at the upper pavillion at Audra State Park. Treaters can begin setting up at 3 p.m. The pumpkin court will start at 4:30, and costume contest begins at 5 p.m. Trunk or treating will begin at 5:30. All ages are welcome.
There will also be a Haunted Hayride today, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is a cost for adults, and a lower cost for children ages 12 and under. Children must have an adult present with them. Concessions will be available. The last wagon leaves at 9 p.m., so be sure to arrive early.
Trick or Treating will once again take place in the barn at the Barbour County Fairgrounds on Oct. 28 from 5:30-7 p.m. Over 50 local businesses and vendors will be passing out treats. This seems to be a community favorite every year, so come out and join in the fun.
Kick Back N Camp, on the Audra Road, just out of Belington will be having a family friendly movie on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Bring a chair to the pavilion to enjoy the movie. Popcorn and snacks will be available for purchase at the camp store.
Also, on Nov. 1, there will be a costume contest, as well as a pumpkin and camp site decorating contest. The judging will begin at 4 p.m., with the winners being announced at 5:30 p.m. At 6, there will be trick or treating, followed by a hayride on the haunted trail.
Continuing with the scary theme, there will be a haunted house at the Barbour County Fairgrounds on Oct. 31 from 8-10 p.m., and on Nov.1 from 8 p.m. – midnight. This is sponsored by the Barbour County 4H and FFA. There will be a cost for admission. Parental guidance is recommended.
Trick or treating will take place in Belington on Oct. 31 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. In Philippi, the times will be from 5:30 – 7 p.m. After the treating times have ended, at 7:30, head on over to the VFW park in Belington for an after party. There will be a bonfire, costume contest, scary stories and more.
The Barbour Community Health Association will be having their 14th annual Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run on Nov. 1, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Belington Wellness Center. The cost will be $25 and all proceeds will be divided between the Heart & Hand House and the Belington Presbyterian Church, which both helps with feeding over 400 people every Thanksgiving Day. They are all a blessing to this community.
Battler’s Knob will once again be hosting their famous Ladies Night Out on Nov. 6. This is sponsored by the Phillips Family Foundation and there will be a cost for tickets. Each ticket includes a chance at door prizes and a catered dinner. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. There will be games, raffles and lots of fun! For tickets, contact Cherri at 304-613-7180.
Battlers Knob will be presenting a Veteran’s Salute on Nov. 8. This will be a day filled with activity, starting with a 5K Ruck and Run at 7 a.m. At 11 a.m., there will be a Field of Honor Ceremony, followed by a Quilts for Veterans presentation at 1 p.m. The evening will feature a WV military film screening at 3:30 and live patriotic entertainment at 6 p.m. This promises to be a day of honor for all veterans, so come out and honor those who have served or are serving for our great country.
Looking ahead, a Christmas craft show will be Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Nov. 30 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Randolph County National Guard. This is located off Corridor H, just past the Junior intersection on Caisson Drive. There will be handmade arts and crafts, food, treats and lots of fun. This is a perfect time to start (or finish) Christmas shopping.
