AmeriCorps member in the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area continue to make a great deal of difference at Kump Education Center owned by the City of Elkins. Soon after the City first accepted the Kump property, Logan Smith and Phyllis Baxter began sending intelligent and energetic young people over to help us paint the fence, cleanout the barn, repair windows, replace plaster, and work in the wetland. Here we go again. This week, the Senate unveiled, honed and passed its version of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” and it’s a fiscal monstrosity. What was already an oversized mess in the House has been supersized into a $4 trillion ode to unseriousness. This isn’t tax reform. Elon Musk warned that if Republicans passed their big domestic policy bill, he would form a new “America Party” to primary those who voted for it. He doesn’t need a new party. He has his old one, the Democrats. Many Democrats have grown to intensely dislike Musk, and they have their reasons.
