• Applause to the legion of volunteers who have worked so hard this week to present both the Randolph County Fair, at 4-H Camp Pioneer in Beverly, and the Tucker County Fair, at Camp Kidd in Parsons.
Both fairs have offered activities, music, food, exhibits and demonstrations for the entire family throughout the week. We applaud everyone who has played a part in making the fairs successful this year.
And don't forget, the Barbour County Fair begins today at the Barbour County Fairgrounds, offering a week of family fun through next Sunday.
• Applause to Ashton White, a senior at Elkins High School, who, along with the Emma Scott Garden Club, have spearheaded a campaign to collect money for a life-sized Rosie the Riveter statue to be constructed and placed in downtown Elkins.
White took it upon himself to organize a bike-a-thon for the project last weekend, and single-handedly raised more than $6,000 for the statue, as well as planned upgrades to Elkins Veterans Memorial Park.
• Applause to all the students, teachers and staff members who have returned to school in recent days.

• Applause to the success of Randolph County Kids Day, presented last Saturday at the Phil Gainer Community Center in Elkins. The event drew about 300 attendees, including 150 children, officials said.
The Interact Children's Museum offered a host of games and activities set up outside the Center for children to explore, while the Southern Kitchen provided free food for everyone who attended. Bouncy houses, games and information tables from area organizations were set up inside the center. The event allowed Randolph County children a fun way to expend some energy before the new school year opened on Wednesday.
• Applause to Our Town, Inc. and the Mountain State Street Machines for putting together another successful summer concert series in downtown Elkins.
The final performance of the 2023 Live & Drive Concert Series took place Thursday at the Rotary Amphitheater in Elkins Town Square, featuring a performance from David Morris.
The Mountain State Street Machines have also presented weekly cruise-ins on Thursdays since the concert series kicked off back in May. We applaud the efforts of everyone involved and are looking forward to next summer's events.
