Applause to Parsons Mayor Bruce Kolsun, who announced a 90-day prescription delivery program on Thursday, the day the Parsons Walgreens pharmacy closed its doors for good. Kolsun has been talking with company officials since it was announced in November that the Parsons store and pharmacy would close on Dec. 14, and said the delivery service will be a good thing for the Parsons area. "They said they will do a needs assessment after 90 days," Kolsun told The Inter-Mountain Thursday afternoon. "But the 90 days will get people through the winter, which is very important." Kolsun said Walgreens has been in contact with him and other government officials in recent weeks, trying to work out a plan for the store's pharmacy customers, "and they were able to get it all figured out by today." The mayor said existing Parsons Walgreens pharmacy customers will be able to call in their prescriptions and receive free, same-day delivery, or they can choose mail delivery.
Applause to the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Luncheon offered on Thursday afternoon. Delegate Ty Nestor, R-District 66; Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez, R-District 67; state Sen. Robert Karnes, R-11th District; and state Sen. Bill Hamilton, R-11 District, fielded questions and provided insight into the legislative process. The representatives also talked about what they hope to accomplish in the next legislative session in Charleston.
Applause to Post 29 American Legion members, who will provide a military honors service today for the remains of MSgt Robert Deeth (USAF Retired), which were found in an urn in a local dumpster in October, and then brought to Post 29. The military honors for Deeth, who was a resident of Elkins, will be at American Legion Little Arlington Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. today, after the conclusion of the Wreaths Across America ceremony. A City of Elkins Sanitation Department worker found the urn in a dumpster at Gateway Apartments during the Mountain State Forest Festival. Deeth was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as an air traffic controller in the Air Force. He received the Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
