Give Blood

Help save a life

2 min read

As the American Red Cross continues to get creative in enticing donors to give blood, its newest promotion may be the perfect fit for those willing to roll up their sleeves between now and June 9.

Lovers of the video game Tetris may be willing to attend a blood drive over the next couple of weeks to receive not only a special Tetris + Red Cross t-shirt, but to get a chance at a trip for two to New York to meet Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov.

"As summer gets closer, the American Red Cross asks donors to come in to give blood now to help keep the blood supply as stable as possible. The need for lifesaving blood is constant - even during a very busy time of year full of graduations, holiday activities and more," said Sharon Kesselring, executive director of The American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley.

Upcoming local opportunities to give include 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 19 and July 17 at Orchard Hall in Elkins; noon to 6 p.m. June at the Way of Holiness Church in Buckhannon.

"Every single donation can help keep the blood supply as stable as possible during a busy time of year when many regular donors may be unable to give," the Red Cross said in a press release.

Yes, it is a busy time of year. But it shouldn't take prizes to get us to lend a hand (or an arm). Still if a Tetris T-shirt gives you one more reason, now may be the time to discover you're just the right fit to save a life.

Starting at /week.
