Robocalls

Are Spam Calls Driving You Crazy?

Have you reached your limit with spam calls? Are unwanted robocalls driving you nuts? You’re not alone.

According to a WhistleOut robocall ranking of the 50 states, West Virginians received 191,988,700 robocalls in 2023. That’s 108 spam calls per person annually.

So far, two-thirds of Americans report receiving more spam calls in 2024 than in 2023. This makes sense, as this is a presidential election year, and many modern campaigns make use of political robocalls.

West Virginia ranks 31st among the states in terms of robocalls. Hard to believe there are 30 states receiving more of these calls than we are.

Imagine being in Louisiana, which is the top state in the robocall rankings, receiving 1,557,681,800 such calls annually, according to the list. That means the average Louisiana person receives 339 robocalls annually — nearly one a day!

Although West Virginia ranks 31st on the robocall rankings, we must be a tolerant bunch. Despite receiving 191,988,700 spam calls in 2023, we Mountaineers only registered 8,748 complaints with the Do Not Call registry, ranking low on that list among the 50 states.

WhistleOut analyzed data about robocalling in the U.S. and surveyed 1,000 adults about how they’re handling the increase in spam calls. Among their findings:

More than a third of Americans have received a political spam call

Millennials are the most susceptible to scammers, with an 80% likelihood of giving personal information to unknown callers

Residents are fighting back, as 44% of Americans have joined the national Do Not Call Registry,

By the way, the state with the lowest amount of robocalls was Alaska, with 50,153,500 in 2023, or 68 per person annually.
