Annual banquet deemed a success

The Allegheny Mountain Chapter Friends of the NRA would like to take this space to thank all of the business and individuals who helped make the annual fundraising banquet, held at the Beverly VFD on Sept. 7, another success for youth shooting sports in West Virginia.

The Friends of the NRA is a non profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and non political branch of the National Rifle Association with approximately 1,400 chapters throughout the United States. All of the monies raised goes to youth groups and youth firearms safety education, such as the Eddie Eagle programs. Last year chapters throughout our state raised and distributed over $118,000 to youth groups, including archery in schools, 4-H clubs, Boy Scout troops and other organizations for youth in the form of grants.

Since it’s first banquet in 2002, the Allegheny Mountain Chapter has raised over $168,000 for this worthwhile program. With over 160 present at this year’s banquet those present enjoyed games, raffles, a silent auction, live auction and door prizes. Over 22 guns were given away to lucky attendees, along with coolers, jackets, knives and other prizes.

The following is a list of those who supported us; Valley Business Systems, Allegheny Insurance, Star Furniture, B & J Pawn and Sports, Seneca Design, K and K Quick Lube, Jay Davis, R & R Gun Shows, Jamie Cunningham, Don’s Knife and Gun, Wheeler’s, Sam Scarberry, Liggett’s Supply, Nate Matheiy, Donley Teter, Allen King, Sue King and Sally Chapman. We would like to also thank the Tygarts Valley FFA for their help in the clean up afterword. The Tygarts FFA Alumni Association for preparing and serving the great food.

I would like to thank all of the Allegheny Mountain Chapter members for all of their hard work in selling tickets and getting every thing done on time for this worthwhile event for the youth of West Virginia.

Most of all we would like to thank all of those who bought tickets and attended the banquet without your generosity it could not have happened.

Should anyone like to help with next year’s banquet, wish to donate or sponsor an item in our program please feel free to contact me at 304-642-9800.

Thank you all again for your support of the youth shooting programs throughout West Virginia.
