Delighted with an Unsung Hero article

This morning my wife, Nancy, pointed out a wonderful Inter-Mountain article on Facebook about a dear friend, Larry Ferguson. Larry is a wonderful person and certainly deserves to be recognized.

I met Larry at Walter Reed General Hospital, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in mid 1962. We were both employed by the United States Army. We worked in the Registrar Division located in the main building. We became very good friends: I visited Larry’s home in Elkins and Larry visited my home in Stratford, Connecticut.

We have attended the Mountain State Forest Festival a number of times, always staying with Larry and his family. Larry has visited New England a number of times representing the International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). We always arrange to meet if the distance is reasonable.

While in the Army, a group stationed at WRGH traveled to Elkins for trout season opening day. We had a ball! We even met Larry at the Rose Parade when he rode the IOOF float.

We have continued our friendship on Facebook and via telephone. It’s always fun to call each other “Old Man.”

Thank you very much,

Alan and Nancy Dempsey
