Newly elected sheriff is congratulated

In the election for sheriff of Randolph County, the people have spoken. Congratulations to Rob Elbon. Rob will be the new supreme law enforcement officer, defender of the West Virginia Constitution, and maintainer of the rule of law.

I also express a sincere appreciation for the people who supported my campaign.

To the newly elected sheriff and those who will comprise the West Virginia Legislature and take an oath to support and defend the Constitution of West Virginia, please remember the following:

West Virginia Constitution – Article 1 Section 3

The provisions of the Constitution of the United States, and of this State, are operative alike in a period of war as in time of peace, and any departure therefrom, or violation thereof, under the plea of necessity, or any other plea, is subversive of good government, and tends to anarchy and despotism.

Gov. Justice’s ongoing state of emergency policies are infringing on the role reserved to the legislative branch of government. Policies are not laws. Many of the policies for dealing with the declared pandemic are overtly unconstitutional because they violate Article 1 Section 3 of the Constitution.

If the Constitution is ignored, it leads to anarchy and despotism. As a science teacher, I recognize that a basic principle of science involves understanding cause and effect. Did the Founders foresee this relationship and provide Article 1, Section 3 for such a time as this where our state and national leaders are using the plea of pandemic to unleash unlawful and draconian procedures?

Even more seriously, could the COVID-19 response be a scheme to cause anarchy and despotism and push the world and West Virginia into a new order disguised as the “new normal”?

What can we do?

Every individual must work out their own salvation.

For our land, the answer is: 2 Chronicles 7:14, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

The preamble of our Constitution reflects the answer found in Scripture: Since through Divine Providence we enjoy the blessings of civil, political and religious liberty, we, the people of West Virginia, in and through the provisions of this Constitution, reaffirm our faith in and constant reliance upon God and seek diligently to promote, preserve and perpetuate good government in the State of West Virginia for the common welfare, freedom and security of ourselves and our posterity.

Rob Elbon and the upcoming Republican super majorities in both houses of the West Virginia Legislature have a solemn duty and deserve our prayers and support in acting righteously.
