17 local churches work together for project

During Holy Week each year Elkins Area Church Women United gather seventeen churches to provide a luncheon following the Randolph County Coalition of Christian Churches services.

Because of the pandemic, we have not been able to do the luncheons for the last two years. However, those churches and many individuals donated money to carry on our tradition of providing support to local agencies.

The churches involved in this project include First United Methodist, Mercy Chapel, Orlena United Methodist, Wayside United Methodist, Davis Memorial Presbyterian, Saint Brendan Catholic, Holy Trinity Lutheran, First Baptist, First Church of Christ, Otterbein United Methodist, Israel United Methodist, Elkins Church of God, Church of the Brethren, Woodford Memorial United Methodist, Grace Episcopal, Good Shepherd Assembly of God, and Church of Nazarene.

It is a great feeling to see different faiths act and serve as one to provide God’s love within our community.

Fifteen different local agencies are receiving gifts this year from Church Women United in Elkins. The donations are made possible by individuals and area churches from within the CWU group.

The agencies receiving monetary gifts are Helping Hand – Good Shepherd, Mountain Hospice Corp., Centers Against Violence (WAIC), Randolph County Homeless Shelter, Randolph County Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities of WV, Back Pack Project of First United Methodist Church, Common Grounds of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, Tyrand Cooperative Ministries Inc., Randolph County Family Resources Network, Youth Health Service, Randolph County Senior Center, Randolph County Coalition of Christian Churches, WV Caring, and Randolph-Tucker Children’s Advocacy Center.

The CWU Board would like to thank all the individuals and churches that helped us accomplish our goal of providing these gifts this year.

You have made a difference within our community and supported Church Women United’s motto of Agreed to Differ, Resolved to Love, United to Serve.

May God continue to bless you and CWU’s mission.
