Sit up straight and absorb this, readers; I'm only going say it once. Well, this month anyway.
I may have discovered why Big Bad Biden has trouble speaking and has to start his sentences over and sometimes his mouth moves but barely audible whisper-like sounds come out. Justice Stephen Breyer's imminent retirement started me thinking about something.
On Feb. 25, 2020, during the Democratic primary, Biden declared if he were president he would nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court of the United States should a vacancy occur. There it is. A big strategic move. He no doubt felt he got the entire female vote and black vote inclusive (male and female) in one shot. Not!
I don't think Joe Biden is smart enough to strategize that well; therefore it must be a staffer or adviser who is to blame for what happened next on that stage, unseen by all. Have you figured it out?
In one fell swoop Biden slammed his foot in his mouth so hard his shoe disappeared. It's still there and only with great effort can he speak plainly with short duration.
The two-hour press conference he gave last week just about got him down. He was barely above a whisper when he stopped.
So now he sees a pathway to get it out, and all the news people I care to listen to mostly agree something happened overnight Wednesday into Thursday that prompted Breyer and Biden to appear in a short briefing to tell us what we already heard, except Biden added he will name a replacement by the end of February.
Whoa! Didn't Breyer say Wednesday he was retiring at the end of the current term? That's usually not 'til mid-July or early August.
We know it's not ethical to assume a rich relative is going to die and prematurely sell their house and take most of their assets except maybe for some insurance or investments. Well, I think it's unethical to pick a replacement justice before the retiring one is gone. He could recant, you know.
So what happened Wednesday night? Is Breyer moving up his retirement date voluntarily or is he bowing to pressure to go now, or is he OK with Biden having his woman in waiting for several months, ready to take a warm seat? He must get that shoe out soon, it's really bothering him.
