The number of Americans living with Alzheimer's is growing -- and growing fast.
More than 6 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias.
The time is now to aggressively fund research for treatments and a cure.
The Alzheimer's Association recently released its 2022 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures Report. The headlines are daunting:
• One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer's or another dementia. It kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
• In West Virginia, there are 39,000 people ages 65 and older living with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia. But in three years, that number will grow 12.8 percent to 44,000 West Virginians.
• There are 72,000 family and friends in West Virginia acting as caregivers.
Support is available for those living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers.
New treatments are being developed and tested every day. Early diagnosis and treatment is key.
