Inflation affecting all American lives

2 min read

I know that the majority of you folks understand what is going on in this country today. A friendly reminder, as you probably have been in a haze the last few weeks.

The average price of diesel fuel as of this letter...$5.63. Prices are going up at the restaurants, convenience stores, pharmacies, furniture stores, mechanic's shops, sporting goods, hospitals, Wal-Mart and Target stores, fast food restaurants, etc., etc., etc.

It gets better! The average price of gas, as of this letter...$4.45. Plan your trips to the market, and that just doesn't include the country folk either. A couple of blocks could be costly.

Headed to the beach this summer? What do you think you will be paying for the items at the shops along the shore? Or dinner at your favorite seafood shack? After the trip you will realize that the trip up and back from the beach would have covered at least two house payments, maybe more.

For Christmas this year, do we go with presents? Or the traditional turkey dinner ? Tell the kids that Santa is low on hay for the reindeer, as the price of it has gone up and he may be a little late this year. And with the turkey dinner, do you go with a 20-pound bird? Or the Oscar Mayer turkey slices? No pumpkin pie, just two cans of pumpkin filling and five spoons.

And you can start chopping wood because whether you heat with gas or electric, it's going up in price. No matter how we celebrate the increase in the minimum wage, almost half of it is taken by the price of gasoline. A case of one step forward and two steps back.

So there you have it, folks! The Domino Theory. One person and everybody is hurting. From the poor, to the middle...and yes, even the rich.

Do you see anybody in D.C. trying to save us, because I don't! Mr. President, get off your duff and do something! If you can't lead, get out of the way and let someone else!

Duff, you say? A slang term for caboose, derriere, backside, ah… better not. My Momma taught me not to curse. Just a little humor. It's either that, or cry.
