Looking for a Christmas miracle? Stay tuned.
The year was 1954, just days before Christmas and the U.S. Coast Guard located alone the Alaskan coastline, got a distress call from a Russian fishing vessel. They had taken on water and the ship was slowly sinking. Quickly, a search plane and two Coast Guard Cutters were dispatched to the approximate location.
The Coast Guard crew left in snowy conditions. What was worse yet, just a few minutes off the coast, a fog had set in and was slowly getting thicker.
The plane got to the approximate location and circled at least three or four times but the fog was just too thick and the fuel on the plane was getting low.
A sailor prayed out loud, "Lord, we're their only hope." Within minutes the fog parted and a rescue was accomplished. As one of the Russians was helped into the boat he gave thanks to the Americans and to God above.
Miracle number 2. Known as one of the bloodiest wars in history, World War 1 claimed 20 million lives. But, during the war, a miracle took place. A Christmas miracle.
It was Christmas of 1914. Allied Forces and a German brigade had been going at it for days until Christmas Day. That morning, smoke was still rising to the sky from the gun and cannon fire from the previous day's battle.
On Christmas day, both sides still tucked in their foxholes, when suddenly a soldier from the Allied Forces heard a voice coming from the other side. In broken English, a German soldier was shouting "Merry Christmas!"
As the Allied Soldiers peered over their foxholes, they saw unarmed German soldiers climbing out of their foxholes. The Germans walking across the battlefield ... unarmed.
Allied Forces slowly climbed out of the foxholes, and approached the Germans.
Kind words were exchanged along with packs of cigarettes and pudding. And a friendly game of soccer was even played.
A Russian family had their dad for many years to come because he was rescued for what he was ... a human being, not Russian.
Grandpa's stories are being passed down of the Christmas dinner, how he spent his holiday with the Germans. Two sides realizing that they are people with families and peace is all they wanted.
The shape the world is in, we need a Christmas miracle ... now. The above stories tell you it's possible.
This holiday, while you're praying over the Christmas dinner, pray for peace. There was a man born over 2,000 years ago that could guarantee it, all you have to do just ask... pray.
