I don't know how many Randolph County citizens have read the notice from the Randolph County Commission that they are wanting to build their own dog facility and run it.
It will be paid for with our tax dollars and I am sure it will be a kill shelter.
I heard Mineral County does it better. I spoke to the enforcement officer there, who gave me some information.
Any dog that is sick, hurt, or aggressive is put down immediately. If they deem a dog adoptable (at their discretion), they call the humane society. The humane society has no facility and is run out of two private homes.
If there is a foster available to take the dog it is given to them. If no fosters are available, the dog is held for five days and destroyed.
Our humane society is a no-kill facility which has operated for decades with help from the county and the rest from private donations and grants.
All animals are spayed and neutered, vaccines given, injuries and health issues taken care of.
The only problem I heard of was a time the county officer had an animal or animals and could not get hold of a shelter staff member and had to go to another county. Nothing is perfect.
It seems like reasonable people can sit down and discuss the problem and find a solution. Spending more money than what they are currently giving to our humane society does not make sense.
I believe most of us would like to see these animals live and not die.

If you can donate food or money, please do. When you see the shelter has a fund aiser, please support it.
Let's not fix something that's not broken. Caring dedicated people are in charge right now.
