Dear Editor
I wanted the citizens of Elkins, especially First Ward, why I am supporting and voting for Phillips Kolsun, running for a seat representing First Ward, on the Elkins City Council
I have known Phillips for most of his life, as a young boy, a family friend, as a student, an entrepreneur, a fellow church member and a neighbor. Phillips has been community minded since elementary school. He participated in school projects and local youth organizations. Scouting, earning the honor of Eagle Scout; 4-H, where he was a tribe leader and a 4-H All-Star, FBLA, EHS band and other groups that fostered community spirit. As a college student, he continued his gift of serving others at West Virginia Wesleyan, both on and off campus. He holds a masters degree in Cybersecurity Policy and an MBA. Phillips is employed by Leidos Inc. as a cybersecurity engineer.
After graduation, Phillips continued to be involved with local service organizations including Lions, Rotary, West Virginia Railroad Museum, the Welcome Depot and is a founding member of Citizens Promoting Community which has raised over $6500 for local charities and other groups that brought revitalization and community spirit to the Elkins Area. He is an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he volunteers and serves on the media/ broadcasting team. Phillips is a great volunteer and young community leader.
Phillips and I, on occasion, have been on opposite side of an issue. What I find is that you can share your viewpoint with Phillips and he listens. He doesn't belittle you for thinking differently nor does he argue. He has respect for those around him. We may not see eye to eye, but we can come together to discuss issues.
Phillips wants Elkins to thrive. He wants business, industry and community to come together. He wants new business to come to Elkins, bringing better jobs to our town. Phillips doesn't have a personal agenda or gripe to bring to the table. He wants progress and for Elkins to prosper.
Elkins residents should get out and vote for your representation, either through early voting or on Election Day
I encourage First Ward Residents to come to the polls and vote for Phillips Kolsun.
