It's apparent that many West Virginia residents are caught up in the "culture wars," primarily because of what they read and see on all types of media and often to the exclusion of policies and legislation that actually make a difference in our everyday lives.
Here are some facts about what the Biden administration has accomplished through the bi-partisan infrastructure bill that will have a lasting positive impact on our state.
West Virginia will receive more than $800 million for roads, bridges, public transportation, and airports.
West Virginia will receive $83 million for clean water initiatives.
West Virginia will receive a minimum of $100 million to help ensure high speed internet coverage across the state.
More than $45 million has been allocated to expand electric vehicle charging sites.
More than $29 million will be provided for weatherization projects and $4.1 million to help prevent power outages and make the power grid more resilient.
More than $196 million for legacy pollution clean-up such as capping oil and gas wells and reclaiming abandoned mining sites.
There's more, but you get the point. Instead of focusing on stripping women of their reproductive freedoms, banning drag shows, censoring history, or trying to take us back to a time long past, let's think about who is really helping West Virginia.
We can continue to elect obstructionists and people who want to take away our rights, or we can elect candidates who want to move West Virginia forward. It's your choice.
