As your local Democratic leader, I stand before you at a pivotal moment in our nation's history. At this time the very foundation of our freedom and democracy is under threat. Today, more than ever, we must unite in defense of our cherished principles, for they are being challenged across our country and the world.
The threats we face are serious, with authoritarianism casting a dark shadow over our democratic institutions. We can't stand on the sidelines but must confront this existential threat with unwavering resolve. Much of what is happening now echoes events in 1930's Germany before the rise of Hitler and the Nazi movement. We have a presumptive Republican presidential candidate who praises dictators like Putin, Orban and Kim Jong Un, spreads disinformation, and continues to deny the results of a free and fair election.
In the upcoming election it's imperative that our Republican counterparts make their positions clear regarding former President Trump, his candidacy, and Project 2025. These issues strike at the heart of our democracy, and we demand clarity and accountability from all candidates.
Now is not the time to be complacent or indifferent. Now is not the time to "sit this one out." Our elected officials must be held to the highest standards of integrity and commitment to the values our founding fathers wove into the Constitution. There are examples of Republican leaders such as Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Mitt Romney, and Lisa Murkowski who have had the courage to speak out about the imminent threats to our American values and way of life.
We are calling on the Republican candidates for State Senate District 11 and House Districts 66 and 67 to make their positions clear on endorsing the Republican platform, which is Project 2025 and former President Trump, now a convicted felon. The citizens of our county and state deserve it.
