The State of West Virginia Civil Air Patrol Chaplain wrote this. I was so moved by it I wanted to share with all.
"It's more than just a piece of cloth.
"Just a few weeks ago, at our 2024 West Virginia Wing – Civil Air Patrol Encampment, I witnessed two of our dedicated cadets tenderly handle our American flag. I looked at this precious piece of cloth made up of three predominate colors. Is it just cloth and is it to be burned, mutilated or treated with disrespect? I think not.
"For over 200 years, millions of our flags have been displayed and carried with great honor. Red is for the blood of heroes that gave their lives to protect our people. White is for the virtue of integrity and truthfulness. Blue is for the loyalty and royalty of its people.
"As we gaze upon this revered symbol, let's break down the phrases of the pledge.
"I pledge allegiance. (I will be loyal.)
"To the flag. (The symbol of our nation.)
"And to the republic. (A gathering of persons who desire to be self-governed.)
"For which it stands. (A defined purpose.)
"One nation (United with one cause.)
"Under God (Unreserved subjection to the Almighty.)
"Indivisible (We will not be separated.)
"With liberty. (The opportunity to do right.)
"And justice (Legal protection for its residents.)
"For all. (No boundaries in its policy.)
Our flag is flown over our government buildings. It finds itself on vehicles, ships and aircraft. Our flag has been carried into many battles.
We are proud of this symbol because everyone knows that it says we are different from any other nation.
Fly it freely, pledge to it without reservation, salute it with pride and remember the coffins it adorns at the loss of an American war hero.
May America bless God as He has blessed us!"
