YMCA asking for community support

During the holiday season, the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA reflects on the many blessings it has received throughout the year through the support of its dedicated community members. This year, the Y is reaching out to the community with a special call to action as we work toward funding much-needed upgrades to the facility, ensuring that we can continue to serve as a vital hub for families, children, and individuals to connect, grow, and thrive.

The YMCA has already begun renovations to the pool area, including structural repairs to the exterior wall. These improvements have also included the addition of new windows that bring in more natural light, brightening up the space and creating a more welcoming atmosphere. However, there is still an urgent need to replace the aging pool filtration system, which is critical to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the water. The current system, which has reached the end of its lifespan, must be replaced to ensure the pool continues to meet the high standards of safety and comfort that YMCA members expect.

In addition to the pool upgrades, the Y is focusing on another crucial area in need of attention: the gymnasium floor. The floors have not been renovated since the 1990s and are showing signs of significant wear and tear. The gym is home to a wide range of programs, including youth sports leagues and fitness classes, and the floor’s condition impacts the safety and experience of participants.

Over the past few years, the YMCA has invested more than half a million dollars into various facility improvements. This includes major upgrades to the men’s locker room and the Legg Family Youth Center, enhancing the overall experience for the community. These renovations have been made possible through the generosity of donors who share the Y’s commitment to building a safer, modern, and welcoming space for all.

To ensure that these vital renovations continue, the YMCA is asking for donations to help fund these projects. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings the Y one step closer to its goal of creating a better and safer environment for everyone. You can support these projects by donating online at www.elkinsymca.com or by mailing a donation to 400 Davis Avenue in Elkins.

The YMCA expresses its sincere thanks to the community for its ongoing support. With the help of generous donors, we are committed to continuing our mission to strengthen the community by offering programs that focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Together, we can create a stronger, healthier community for all.

On behalf of the YMCA’s board of directors and staff, I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season!
