EHS Alumni need new membership
There’s an old saying, “Any port in a storm.” It is an old sailor’s proverb which means, when anyone is in trouble and can’t wait for the perfect solution.
The Elkins High Alumni Association is needing your help. The current board is getting smaller and smaller. Those that have been with us awhile are looking to step dow,n as they want to enjoy the rest of their retirement. Just a few cannot run this organization. We need help.
If we don’t get new members that can help us, we will have to close the organization down.What will that mean to the high school?
Here is a list of some of the things that the Elkins High Alumni Association has done to help:
Assisted in paying for a new Scoreboard for the gymnasium;
A donation to the EHS Band for a new trailer to haul band equipment;
A donation to the Elkins High Football team to assist in the purchase of new uniforms;
Paid for the paving of the parking lot next to the school cafeteria;
A donation for the purchase of robes for the EHS Choir;
Assisted in the purchase of the sign at the entrance of Kennedy Drive;
Basketball warm-ups for the EHS basketball players;
A donation to the concession stand/press box at the Legion Field baseball park;
A donation to the new Tiger Stadium football field;
Donations to promo and graduation parties;
The signs that you see on the chain link fence between Mon Power are donations from area businesses for the Elkins High Alumni Scholarship that is given every year to a graduating senior.
We send out a newsletter to give some press to the school of the successes that have graced the school. With that letter, we request to be sure to update their membership at $10 a year. Plus, we ask that if they would chose to make a donation to academics/athletics or music and art, we will make sure that, that particular group would get that money.
When we can, we try to put on an open house during the Mountain State Forest Festival at the American Legion Hall. This is what we do to assist the students of Elkins High School.
If we don’t get some more members to help, assist, this is what Elkins High will lose. If you are an alum, or you aren’t but your kids were, please join us. Please help us, so we can help them.
We will list the next meeting of the Elkins High Alumni Association at Pizza Hut in the newspaper. We hope you will join us.
