Reader: Democrats reacting to craziness

In response to the May 3 letter “Reader: Dems take ‘crazy’ to new level.” I recently read a letter to the editor constituting a thoughtful analysis of the mental health of Democrats secondary to the election of a convicted felon as president of our beloved country. I really appreciated that insightful letter — it makes so much sense, if you don’t read it carefully.

I agree that Democrats are deserving of our collective support and sympathy. They are confused and disheartened that so many Americans voted for a man convicted not only of sexual assault, but also of multiple felonies designed to financially enrich him. Democrats, like many non-Democrats, can remember a time when morality mattered and it seemed important to have a president that could be an example to our nation’s young, and the voters’ willingness to idolize a man willing to pay off porn stars to keep silent over their past encounters, seems somehow not to fit those perhaps antique moral expectations.

All Americans, of whatever political bent, agree that it is important to have leadership with a good understanding of finances and economics. The sitting president repeatedly says that tariffs are paid by foreign countries — not by you and me when we buy groceries, medication, cars, and the thousand and one things we all need.

Democrats seem to have a hard time understanding how a man who has filed so many bankruptcies is seen as a financial genius (although the president has assured us so many times of his almost God-like intellect).

Likewise, by appointing Elon Musk to head the Department of Government Efficiency, he has caused many Democrats to worry, as Musk’s own company, Tesla, has lost over 70% of its value in the last three months.

With these two balancing the nation’s checkbook, many Democrats toss and turn at night, thinking of our beloved nation’s need for affordable healthcare, social security stability, and programs to help the hungry — such as school nutrition programs, etc.

We wonder if a coterie of billionaires, such as the president’s cabinet, can understand or care about the finances most of us have to work with (without long strings of zeros after our little numbers…).

Democrats are confused by the fact that the federal workforce has remained relatively stable over the last 50 years, even as our nation’s population has grown dramatically. That we were served well by that federal workforce even though it was responsible for doing so much more for so many more people is hard to understand when the current administration assures us that thousands and thousands of workers, disproportionately made us of veterans, needed to get pink slips.

It is frightening to Democrats, and others, for our president to be asked if he supports due process for all citizens and non-citizens, and to hear him say that he is not a lawyer so he is not sure, or to hear him speculating about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He threatened to sue the colleges he attended if they released his actual grades – I wonder if he threatened his elementary civics teachers, too, regarding what he didn’t learn in fifth grade?

It is deeply confusing to Democrats to hear speculation about a third possible run for the presidency in 2008 — although that is clearly unconstitutional. But really, I guess it is not more unconstitutional than trying to deny birth-right citizenship or by revoking the tax-exempt status of higher educational systems that are slow to praise the Emperor’s new clothes.

To a person, I am sure the Democrats feel very sorry that his heel spurs prevented him from serving in the military. It seems like serving in the military would have so appealed to him — he could have ended both World Wars in a matter of days, undoubtedly … and probably the Gallic wars, too.

I could go on and on, but I am not sure I would be saying anything that everyone does not already know. The main point, I suppose, is that I am in agreement that Democrats are at a new level of crazy — stressed, confused, frightened and incredulous. It is a craziness emanating, mostly by late-night tweets, from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
