Reader had positive experience at rally

It is common these days to be apprehensive about whether to attend a public rally. Especially in the highly charged political climate the country is now experiencing. So much of the news we see or read focuses on conflicts and stress. So it is normal to be hesitant when a local opportunity arises.

That’s what I found myself wrestling with as the date of the National No King rallies approached. I had signed up on-line and so felt a responsibility to attend. I am so very glad that I did!

From the moment I arrived and was welcomed by the smiling coordinator all apprehension evaporated. As the crowd grew the smiles and fellowship did too. Laughter was the ambiance of the day. Signs were everywhere, some sobering, some hilarious, together capturing the importance of the message and the disbelief that our country finds itself in such a crisis. But through it all the mood of joy and peace prevailed. The near-constant honking of horns of agreement from passing vehicles showed their support. It was a wonderful and enriching experience.

I urge all who might be hesitant to attend future rallies, come be with friends of a like mind and desire for a better future for our great experiment in democracy. Come for peace, fairness and inclusion. It’s fun!
