As a board member and volunteer of the Homestead Community & Event Center (the former Homestead Elementary School), I am writing to the community to help support this endeavor.
When the school closed and the center was turned over to the Tygart Valley Homestead Association, the board had a vision of continuing to provide this space as a resource hub for the valley.
With hundreds of youth in football, cheer, basketball and soccer we have enabled the kids of the valley a place within their home area to participate in sports.
Our grounds, playground, and walking track are available to the community year round. Any given evening you can see the community using the property for a variety of healthy outdoor activities! Dogs welcome (on a leash and responsibility cleaned up after.)
We offer a variety of rental options from dining hall and kitchen, gymnasium and classroom space for reunions, birthdays, meetings, and classes.
We could do so much more but that takes funding and volunteers! We need you!
How can you help?
First, financially: There are very few if any grants that support operations -- gas, water, electric, insurance and basic operations. We need your support to continue!
Second, volunteer: We have no staff – we are 100% volunteer and we have all sorts of options that fit any age and physical ability! Give andhour or a day or just a specific project!
Third: Use the center for your activities and events! Rental fees help support the operations of the center.
