Walk to raise awareness of disease

I am very excited to announce our fifth annual Huntington's Disease Walk, taking place at The Barbour County Fairgrounds in Belington on Sept. 13. Registration begins at 1 p.m.

Many people may wonder, "What is Huntington's Disease?" In short, Huntington's Disease is a genetic disorder that causes a progressive breakdown of the brain, affecting a person's physical and mental abilities. It is often described as having ALS, Parkinson's Disease, and Alzheimer's Disease simultaneously.

Unfortunately, this devastating disease is a reality for our family and many others in our community. In addition to those diagnosed, Huntington's Disease impacts family members, caregivers, and those who may be at risk. I encourage everyone to take time to research the disease and help educate others about its effects.

I hope you will join us for our Huntington's Disease Walk on Septe. 13 in Belington, as well as an Education Day at Bridgeport City Hall in Bridgeport on Sept. 19 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Together, we can raise awareness, support families affected by Huntington's Disease, and remind those facing this difficult journey that they are not alone.
