• There were four Maids of Honor twice at the Mountain State Forest Festival, 1956 and 1974.

• Only one mother and daughter served as Queen Silvias. Martha Gaines reigned in 1949, while her daughter, Chilton Wehrle, serve as Silvia in 1988.

• Traditionally, the governor of West Virginia crowns Queen Silvia. This year, Earl Ray Tomblin will make the trip from Charleston to perform the honor.

• The Fireman’s Parade has been a part of every Mountain State Forest Festival.

• The route for the Grand Feature Parade is more than two miles in length.

• There is only one year in the history of the Festival that Queen Silvia was from another state — 1933.

• Five United States presidents have attended the Mountain State Forest Festival: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford and Jimmy Carter.
