Shepherd will leave the MEC
BRIDGEPORT –Shepherd University became the second school to leave the Mountain East Conference over the past few months on Friday.
The MEC released a statement on Friday afternoon announcing Shepherd’s departure. The Rams will become a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in the 2019-20 school year.
“The Mountain East Conference has received official notice of Shepherd University’s intent to withdraw from the league,” the MEC stated. “While the institutions that comprise the MEC will now change in 2019 for the first time since our inception five years ago, our mission and our dedication on behalf of and among our committed members will not.”
Shepherd has become a powerhouse in Division II football, playing in the national championship game in 2015.
UVa.-Wise, meanwhile, announced earlier this spring it was departing the MEC to join the South Atlantic Conference.
