Highlands bike team begins season
Will host home meet Sunday morning at Canaan Valley Park

ELKINS — On Sept. 1, the Highlands Composite mountain bike team, consisting of Randolph and Tucker County athletes, competed in the first race of the 2019 NICA season.
This first race included 13 teams and 215 athletes competing from around the state.
The Highlands team took a second-place finish behind Morgantown.
In the sixth-grade boys’ division, Andrew Sproul placed fourth, Andrew Tesar was 10th and Kaden George placed 22nd.
In the sixth-grade girls’ division, Zanna Logar captured first, Emma Ujvagi was second, Allison Judy finished third and Lilyana Anderson placed eighth.
In the seventh-grade boys’ division, Cooper Ruud placed eighth and Mason Powell placed 12th.
In the eighth-grade boys’ division, Daniel Dodds placed second.
In the freshman girls’ and boys’ divisions, Alyssa White and Ashton White topped the podium in first.
In the sophomore girls’ division, Natalie Sutton also had a first-place finish.
In the JV girls’ division, Isabelle Judy captured first and Isabella White placed second, while Jasper Clark finished fifth in the JV boys’ division.
In the varsity boys’ division, Eli Ballantyne finished in fourth place.
The overall points leaders for the 2019 race season include, Isabelle Judy leading the JV girls’ division, Natalie Sutton leading the Sophomore girl’s division, Alyssa White leading the freshman girls’ division, Ashton White leading the freshman boys’ division and Zanna Logar leading the sixth grade girls’ division.
The next race of the season will be held at the Lodge in Canaan Valley State Park, at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
This is the team’s home race of the season.
