D&E men’s hoops team falls to Vulcans

ELKINS -- Luke House scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds as California University of Pennsylvania snapped Davis & Elkins College's two-game win streak with an 86-63 win Monday night in non-conference action at the McDonnell Center.
The Vulcans, who improved to 2-2 with the victory, opened the contest with an 8-0 run and went on to control a 39-24 lead at intermission. California started the second half much like the first, as a Brent Pegram three-pointer at the 17:28 mark capped off a 10-2 surge and made it 49-26.
The Senators (2-3) were unable to get the lead to under 20 points the rest of the way out as the Vulcans rolled to the win.
Pegram followed House in the scoring column for California with 18 points. Zyan Collins finished with 16 points and nine caroms, while Babatunde Ajike collected 13 points and seven boards. The visitors outrebounded D&E 41-25 in the contest.
Myles Monroe paced the Senators with 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Patrick Wilburn followed with 11 points, while Donte Doleman and Erkam Kiris hit for eight points each. Terrance Lakes and Emre Yildirim added seven apiece. Lakes led the hosts on the glass with five rebounds and also dished out three assists.
Davis & Elkins will play its first Mountain East Athletic Conference contest of the season Saturday at Fairmont State University. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
