Area high school squads set to return to the court today

ELKINS -- Area high school basketball teams will return to action today in holiday tournament action, along with some regular-season tilts.
Tygarts Valley will host a four-team holiday tourney at Davis & Elkins College's McDonnell Center.
The Bulldogs will face off against Paw Paw at approximately 7:30 p.m., while Clay-Battelle and Gilmer County will tangle in the opening game at 5:45 p.m.
The championship and consolation contests are set for Saturday.
Elkins, Buckhannon-Upshur, Harman and Pendleton County will also compete in tournaments.
The Tigers are set to face Frankfort at 6 p.m. today at the Lincoln Holiday Hoops Classic.
The host Cougars and Scott will meet in the nightcap.
Elkins will then face Scott on Saturday and Lincoln will meet Frankfort.
The Bucs will compete in the Brooke tournament, facing the host Bruins at 8 p.m. today to begin play.
Lincoln County will be the opponent for Harman in the first day of the Ritchie County tournament at 3:45 p.m. today.
Pendleton County, meanwhile, will battle Moorefield at 6 p.m. today in one of the oldest tournaments in the state-- the Petersburg Holiday Tournament. The host Vikings will face Union in the today's second game.
In regular-season action, Tucker County will visit Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. today.
The Elkins High School girls are slated to face Scott in the Sissonville Christmas Shootout at 6 p.m. today and Pocahontas County battles Herbert Hoover as part of the Parkersburg Catholic tourney, also at 6 p.m.
Philip Barbour visits Frankfort for a regular-season contest between sectional foes.
