Lady Battlers drop overtime decision to Dragons

ELKINS -- The Alderson Broaddus women's basketball squad dropped a 79-72 overtime decision to Tiffin University Thursday at Davis & Elkins College's McDonnell Center.

The game was contested in Elkins due to Rex Pyles Arena being closed for repairs.

In a closely played affair, the Lady Battlers led 21-19 after one quarter before falling behind 41-39 at halftime.

The game was tied 56-56 entering the final quarter and 69-all at the end of regulation.

The Lady Dragons (8-13, 3-8 G-MAC) never trailed in the extra session after a 3-pointer by Aarion Nichols started the overtime scoring.

AB got within 74-72 on a free throw from Kristy Galea with 1:43 left but came no closer.

Savanah Richards led the winners with a career-high 25 points. Nichols chipped in with 18 points and eight assists, reserve Brooke Wesner netted 11 points and Jada Tate collected 11 rebounds.

Shay Harper knocked in 16 points for the Lady Battlers (6-14, 3-8), followed by Ta'Sharra Jefferies with 13 points and Jeana Weatherspoon with a double-double of 10 points and 10 caroms.

Tiffin held a slim 44-40 rebounding advantage and the teams combined for 46 turnovers -- 24 by AB.

The Lady Battlers will return to the court at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedarville (Ohio) for another league encounter.

Tiffin will travel to G-MAC foe Ohio Dominican on the same day.
