BRIDGEPORT -- Davis & Elkins baseball received 16 points, and are tabbed for a sixth-place finish in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) South Division preseason poll, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Charleston was picked to finish first in the South Division, receiving 61 points, including six first-place votes. Concord is tabbed for a second-place finish, receiving five first-place votes for a total of 58 points.
West Virginia State received the other first-place vote and finished with 49 points. West Virginia Wesleyan (33 points) and Glenville State (29 points) slot in at fourth and fifth place, respectively.
D&E head coach Mason Heyne welcomes back junior infielder Chase DeGrood, a 2018 honorable mention selection by the G-MAC, and senior hurler Brent McMillion for the upcoming campaign. The Senators boast a young roster for the 2020 season, which includes nine freshmen.
D&E is set to open MEC play on March 14 with a doubleheader against Fairmont State, slotted to finish second in the North Division. The MEC scheduling format is two games against each North Division opponent, and a four-game series against each South Division team, with all MEC games being seven-inning games.
