Lady Hornets collect victory in JV contest

PARSONS — The Elkins Middle School varsity girls basketball team dropped a 43-32 decision to Tucker Valley on Tuesday night.

Emerson Haddix had 12 points and Addy Cogar for the Lady Hornets, who are now 8-3.

Macy Helmick fired in 19 points and Brylee Wetzel added 16 for the Lady Wildcats.

“I thought the effort was good for the most part but we didn’t get the stops we needed in the second half,” EMS coach Clint Bennett said. “We will learn from it and continue to improve.

“Hats off to Tucker Valley. They came ready to play.”

The Lady Hornets took the preliminary junior varsity contest, 26-19, to improve to 7-2 as Maura O’Neill had 12 points, followed by Erin Collins and Kara Bennett with five each.

Maddy Helmick’s 12 points led the hosts.

Elkins will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday. JV action begins at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity game.

Tucker Valley is slated to visit Philippi on Thursday, starting with JV play at 6 p.m.
