ELKINS -- Anthony Pittman led five teammates in double figures with 18 points as West Virginia State held off Davis & Elkins, 85-74, Saturday on Senior Day at the McDonnell Center.
Frank Agyemang followed Pittman in the scoring column with 15 points as Yellow Jackets (17-5, 11-5 MEC) opened the contest on a 10-2 run and never looked back.
West Virginia State pushed the deficit to 20-6 after a 3-pointer from Glen Abram at the 12:32 mark and took a 44-30 lead into the half.
The Senators (6-18, 4-14) battled back to start the second as a trey from Kyle Leslie at the 13:06 mark capped off a 24-9 run and gave D&E its first lead of the game at 54-53.
The Yellow Jackets answered, however, and put the contest away with a 23-7 surge as a layin from Isiah Noel with 3:18 remaining swelled the visitors' lead to 76-61.
Abram finished with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds for State. Noel also tossed in 12 points, while Michael Seals and Jeremiah Moore hit for 11 apiece.
Donte Doleman fired in 26 points to lead D&E. Kiris Erkam collected a double-double with 14 points and 11 caroms. Tyler Twyman also hit for double digits with 10 points.
The Senators host Concord at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for another MEC contest.
