Third-quarter surge lifts Trinity over TV girls

Top-ranked Wheeling Park too much for Lady Bucs

MILL CREEK — Trinity Christian used a big third quarter to get past Tygarts Valley, 58-50, on Friday night.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter and carried a 27-26 edge into halftime.

But a 20-10 scoring advantage by the Lady Warriors in the third canto gave them a 46-37 lead entering the final quarter.

Jaclyn Smith fired in 23 points and Maggie Mercure added 20 for the winners.

Olivia Austin also reached double figures with 11.

“We did a good job of shutting them down inside,” TV coach Nancy Lewis said. “But their guards really hurt us. We had people on them and they were still hitting (from the outside).”

Abby Lanham, playing in her final home game, fired a game-high 28 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Abi Cabaniss added six rebounds and six blocked shots and Tatum Wamsley six caroms.

“We honored our seniors tonight and they all played well,” Lewis said. “Overall the kids played hard and it was a good game to the end.”

Tygarts Valley will visit Class A, No. 4 Pocahontas County on Wednesday to conclude the regular season.

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur girls dropped a 60-25 decision to Class AAA, No. 1 Wheeling Park on Friday night.

Bella Abernathy had 18 points, Shanley Woods 14 and Lindsey Garrison 12 for the Lady Patriots (19-3).

McKenzie Reynolds led the Lady Bucs (13-8) with eight points and five caroms, followed by Shelby McDaniels with seven and Kendal Currence with six.

B-U will conclude the regular season Monday night at Parkersburg South.
