Mountaineers look to improve seeding for Big 12 tourney with a win

MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia closes out the home portion of the schedule today when No. 4 Baylor visits the Coliseum for a Big 12 Conference matchup.
Seniors Jermaine Haley, Chase Harler and Logan Routt will be honored during the day, with game time slated for 1 p.m. The action will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Seeding for the next week's Big 12 tournament will also be in play. With a win and some help, the Mountaineers could be as high as a third seed and as low as a seventh seed with a loss, depending on the results from today's other league matchups.
The Bears (26-3, 15-2 Big 12), meanwhile, could clinch a share of the Big 12 regular-season title with Kansas with a victory over WVU and a loss by the Jayhawks at Texas Tech.
The Mountaineers (20-10, 8-9) are coming off a much-needed win at Iowa State on Tuesday night.
Freshman guard Miles McBride and sophomore Derek Culver each had 17 points as WVU halted a three-game losing skid.
Freshman forward Oscar Tshiebwe continues to lead the Mountaineers in scoring (11.1) and rebounding (9.2), followed by Culver, who is hitting for 10.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
For Baylor, Jared Butler has averaged 15.8 points and Freddie Gillespie has put up 9.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks.
The Big 12 tournament will take place Wednesday through Saturday at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
