AB announces initial MEC football slate

PHILIPPI – The Alderson Broaddus athletic department has announced the 2020 football schedule.

The Battlers will begin their first season in the Mountain East Conference by playing an all-conference schedule, featuring 10 games.

Coach Travis Everhart will begin his first season at the helm for the Battlers on a Thursday night, with a trip to West Liberty at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

AB will open its home slate the following week when the Wheeling Cardinals come to Philippi. The game will be the second consecutive Thursday night game for the Battlers, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The annual I-79 Barrel Classic will be a conference game for the first time in history, with AB traveling to Glenville State on Oct. 17. The annual game has been played five times, with the road team winning each contest.

“I am excited that AB will be competing in the Mountain East Conference starting this season,” Everhart said. “I have great respect for this conference, its coaches, and players.

“It was always a great battle week in and week out when I coached in the conference while at (Charleston) and (West Virginia) State. I am also looking forward to renewing the in-state rivalries and competing with these great institutions on the gridiron.”

Overall, the Battlers will play five contests at home and five on the road. More information on tickets will be announced when it becomes available.
