MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia continued fall training camp work under soggy conditions inside Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday morning.
For the first time this fall, the Mountaineers practiced in full gear, although coach Neal Brown said it was more about his players getting used to practicing again in full gear rather than having a full-contact practice.
He said his team got in some good situational work in the elements, noting today that tackling and full-contact work will happen eventually.
The coach specifically cited the work put forth by running back Alec Sinkfield, offensive linemen Parker Moorer, Chase Behrndt, Mike Brown and wide receiver Sam James offensively, and defensive lineman Darius Stills, safety Tykee Smith, cornerback Dreshun Miller and Arizona transfer Scottie Young on defense.
Players had Sunday off before resuming training camp work today.
Brown began Saturday's news conference on a somber note by offering his condolences and his prayers to sophomore cornerback Nicktroy Fortune and his family following the Thursday passing of his mother, Iliana.
Brown said Fortune has been excused from practice to return to Georgia to be his family.
West Virginia is scheduled to open its regular season on Saturday, Sept. 12 against Eastern Kentucky at Milan Puskar Stadium.
A kickoff time has yet to be determined.
