Huskies pull away from Tigers, 33-15

RACHEL — North Marion pulled away in the third quarter to claim a 33-15 win over Elkins Friday night at Roy Michael Field at Husky Stadium.

The Tigers (1-2) trailed 14-0 at the intermission before senior T.J. Guire broke free for a 63-yard scamper on EHS’ first possession of the second half to cut the lead to 14-7 after Peyton Isner’s conversion kick.

But the Huskies answered on their next drive on a 3-yard run by Hunter Kuhn and later on Gavan Lemley’s 13-yard scamper with 3:03 left in the third quarter to push the lead to 27-7.

Brody Hess extended the North advantage to 33-7 on 2-yard run with 5:35 remaining in the contest.

Demanuel Smith had a 9-yard TD jolt with :49 left in regulation for the Tigers. Trevor Smith added the two-point conversion run to set the final at 33-15.

Brody Hall had a 1-yard run for the Huskies to open the scoring and later hit Tariq Miller from 33 yards out with 11:01 left in the second quarter to make it 14-0, with Malachi Funkhouser hitting both PAT kicks.

Guire, who left the game in the third quarter with an injury, led the Tigers with 115 yards rushing on 10 attempts.

Dante Ramirez had 41 yards on the ground.

Rodney Vandevender had 27 yards passing, with Demanuel Smith collecting two aerials.

Ramirez had a diving interception at the 1-yard line in the first half to end a North scoring drive and collected 10 tackles on the night to lead the Tiger defense. Isner and freshman Nate Hulver added seven stops each.

Hulver also had a fumble recovery.

With Wimer Stadium unfit for public events due to the bleachers being deemed unfit, Elkins will be on the road at Philip Barbour next Friday night.

The Huskies, who were coming off a 41-21 setback to Fairmont Senior, will remain at home on the same evening to battle Lincoln.
