No postseason play for Elkins High School soccer teams

ELKINS — There will be no postseason action for the Elkins High School soccer teams this fall.

With Randolph County being in the orange in this past Saturday’s DHHR color-coded map, the Tigers were not allowed to participate in the Class AA-A, Region II, Section 2 tournament which got underway on Tuesday.

“This will be the first time in nine years we won’t be playing in the sectional title game, so it’s frustrating,” said EHS girls coach Scott Cutright. “But we exhausted all avenues in trying to work something out and things just didn’t fall into place like we had hoped.”

Cutright praised his players for a 5-3-1 season.

“The team overcame a lot with injuries and low numbers,” he said. “I feel bad for our players. I told them before the season to play each game like it is your last because you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

The EHS girls lose one senior to graduation in Gracie Emery, while Luke Jackson and Patrick Simms were senior players for the boys.
