Tucker hosts eighth-rated Cougars tonight
PARSONS — Tucker County looks to build off the momentum of last week’s convincing win over Hundred against Class A, No. 8 East Hardy this evening.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. from R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field at Class of 1984 Alumni Stadium.
The squads were set to meet on Oct. 9 but that contest was postponed due to COVID-19 protocol.
The Mountain Lions were originally slated to host Gilmer County tonight and East Hardy was to face Pendleton County.
But with Gilmer and Pendleton counties in the gold in Saturday’s DHHR color-coded map, a scheduling change was made.
Gilmer will now host Pendleton County tonight.
Tucker County turned in a dominating effort in its 62-6 win over Hundred, which halted a 17-game losing skid.
The Mountain Lions (1-3) roared out to a 38-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Sophomore quarterback Trenton Wilfong rushed for 180 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns, including a 91-yard gallop, in the win.
Freshman Maddox Anderson and senior Jeremy Liller added two touchdowns each.
The Cougars, meanwhile, have been idle since claiming a 21-2 win over Trinity in a rare Sunday contest on Oct. 11.
Andrew Miller and Mason Miller had scoring runs in the victory for East Hardy (4-1) and Andrew Tharpe returned a blocked punt nine yards for another tally.
Area games canceled this evening due to COVID-19 include Bridgeport at Buckhannon-Upshur, North Marion at Philip Barbour and Trinity Christian at Tygarts Valley.
Elkins was also slated to host Frankfort Saturday at Buckhannon-Upshur High School but that contest was canceled with Randolph County being orange in this past Saturday’s DHHR color-coded map.
