No. 23 Fairmont State pulls away from Senators

FAIRMONT — Davis & Elkins hung tough with No. 23 Fairmont State, but could not overcome a 14-3 run from the Falcons over the final five minutes in an 87-70 loss on Sunday afternoon.

Gyasi Powell led the way for the Senators (1-1, 1-1 MEC) with 21 points. Marcus Fleming added 19 points and 13 rebounds and Sam Rolle IV chipped in 14 points seven assists and three steals. Breland Walton had eight points and 11 boards.

The Falcons (2-0, 2-0 MEC) were led by Cole VanHandorf, who recorded 21 points and eight rebounds. Isiah Sanders secured a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Dale Bonner notched 17 points.

Women’s games

AB 73, West Liberty 66

PHILIPPI — Iyahnna Williams had 14 points as Alderson Broaddus claimed a 73-66 win over West Liberty Sunday afternoon in MEC play at Rex Pyles Arena.

Shay Harper and Yolanda Florido added 12 each for the Lady Battlers (1-1, 1-1 MEC).

Olivia Belknap and Audrey Tingle had 17 each for the Lady Hilltoppers. Lindsay Humble also reached double figures with 10.

Frostburg State 66, WVWC 63

FROSTBURG, Md — Morgan Dombroski had 20 points as Frostburg State rallied for a 66-63 MEC win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.

Rhiana Hall added 19 points for Frostburg State, which trailed 49-46 after three quarters.

Brittany Stawovy and Malaika Kimmons had 11 each for Wesleyan. Kimmons also had 11 boards.

Kimmons also had 11 rebounds and Symphonie Bryant-Brown 10 points.
