Second-quarter scoring run powers Bulldogs over Union

2 min read

MILL CREEK -- A 20-0 run to end the first half propelled Tygarts Valley to a 73-46 win over Union Wednesday night at Weber-Wamsley Court inside TV gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (2-1) were playing their first game in 16 days due to COVID-19 protocol and playing at home for the first time this season.

"The kids were thrilled to be back on the court," TV coach Tom Wamsley said. "I think our depth and bringing players off the bench with great quickness was the difference tonight, along with us forcing 29 turnovers and only committing 14."

The Bulldogs raced out to an 11-0 lead but the Tigers rallied in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 20-18.

However, Tygarts Valley's pressure defense contributed heavily in the game-changing 20-0 surge which gave the hosts a comfortable 40-18 halftime lead.

Garrett Gibson had 12 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter. He also had six rebounds.

Ezra Scott followed with 17 -- hitting four 3-pointers -- and Riley Tackett had a team-high seven caroms.

Kenneth Adams had 18 and Devin Gaither 10 for Union (0-5).

Tygarts Valley returns to action Friday night at Tucker County.
