KINGWOOD -- Preston used a strong first half in claiming a 61-42 win over Elkins in the season opener for both Big 10 Conference squads on Wednesday night.
The Lady Knights outscored the Lady Tigers 24-5 in the first quarter and 19-12 in the second to open up a 43-17 lead at the intermission.
Elkins outscored the hosts 25-18 over the final two quarters.
"In the second half we played with a lot more effort and our defense was better using our schemes and systems," Lady Tigers coach Matt Davis said. "Offensively we will keep getting better with our spacing and pushing the ball down court when we can.
"We have short layoff before going to Liberty (on Friday)."
Anna Belan had 14 points and Autumn Lane 10 for Elkins. Gracelin Corley added eight.
Cersynn had 18 points, Michelle Thomas 16 and Bre Sphar 11 for Preston, which visits Buckhannon-Upshur at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
After visiting Liberty on Friday, EHS opens the home season against Lincoln on Monday.
